About the Journal

Kinephanos is a bilingual, inter- and multidisciplinary online academic journal dedicated to the study of matters closely or remotely related to popular culture and media. Films and TV series, video games, emerging technologies and fan culture are the main subjects covered and analyzed on this site. You will find articles that explore the issues and place of image and sound in popular culture from a variety of perspectives. Film and video game studies, cultural and media studies, the humanities and philosophy are the favoured disciplines.

The journal offers regular and special issues. Regular issues are based on calls for papers (CFP) and are sometimes coordinated by guest editors. Once the submissions have been selected, they undergo a blind peer-review process. Special issues are most often conference proceedings or a selection of the best presentations at scientific events, although in the latter case the texts are also subjected to the peer-review process. For each issue, researchers with recognized expertise in a specific theme are invited to contribute. It's also worth noting that, in either case, each issue's theme is chosen by guest editors, rotating among the editorial board, members of the reading committee or external guests. If you are interested in proposing a thematic issue, please contact the editor-in-chief.
