About the Journal
Kinephanos is a bilingual, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the study of media and popular cultures. The journal publishes research from various disciplines to explore issues related to popular phenomena; films, television series, video games, and fan practices constitute its primary subjects of study. Kinephanos examines the multiple dimensions of media and popular cultures, from modes of production to modes of reception, whether they involve massively popular works or more marginalized practices.
The journal offers regular and special issues. Regular issues are based on calls for papers (CFP) and are sometimes coordinated by guest editors. Once the submissions have been selected, they undergo a blind peer-review process. Special issues are most often conference proceedings or a selection of the best presentations at scientific events, although in the latter case the texts are also subjected to the peer-review process. For each issue, researchers with recognized expertise in a specific theme are invited to contribute. It's also worth noting that, in either case, each issue's theme is chosen by guest editors, rotating among the editorial board, members of the reading committee or external guests. If you are interested in proposing a thematic issue, please contact the editor-in-chief.

DEIA policy :
Building on a long tradition of popular culture studies, Kinephanos draws on the political perspectives of cultural studies and critical theory: fundamentally feminist, decolonial, and intersectional. It is in this spirit that the journal invites readers to critically reflect on the power dynamics inherent in all popular productions and practices.
To ensure a diversity of critical perspectives within the journal, Kinephanos is committed to providing accessibility measures to those who request them. The editorial board is therefore available to address any DEIA requests at any stage of the editorial process (access to platforms, support for writing and editing, and more).
Kinephanos strongly encourages the use of inclusive writing, in line with the inclusive communication guide developed by the Réseau des Universités du Québec. The editorial board is, however, open to other forms of gender-inclusive language and writing.
